Privacy Policy for Sourdoughy

Last updated: April 5, 2026

1. In short

Sourdoughy is a sourdough app that lets you log baking sessions and (optionally) use AI image analysis for assessments and recommendations. AI analysis is a premium feature. When you request AI analysis (in the journal or via Quick Analysis), the images you select are sent to a third‑party service (Gemini AI) to generate the response. Before upload, the app performs an on‑device check (Apple Vision) to detect faces and block images that appear to contain a face. Aside from this, data is primarily stored locally on your device, with an option to back up your journal to iCloud if you enable it.

2. What data is processed?

Images (optional)

Images you choose to analyze (e.g. dough during bulk fermentation or finished bake results). This can be done in the journal or via Quick Analysis. Images are sent only when you actively tap to analyze.

Notes and bake log (local)

Text you enter (notes, hydration, temperature, time choices, etc.). This is used to give you an overview and to provide context for AI if you choose analysis. If you save results from Quick Analysis, the AI response is stored as part of a journal note on your device.

Permissions

The app may request access to the camera and photo library to take/select images. It may also request notification permission for local reminders (e.g. stretch & fold).

Subscriptions / purchases

If the app offers paid features, purchases and payments are handled by Apple (In‑App Purchases). Sourdoughy only receives information needed to verify access (entitlements).

Data we do not try to collect

Sourdoughy is not built for tracking/advertising. We do not request location, contacts, or microphone access for core functionality.

3. What is the data used for?

  • To show your history/journal and help you improve your baking over time.
  • To generate AI-based feedback when you request it (image analysis).
  • To show local reminders if you enable it (notifications).

4. Sharing with third parties

Gemini AI (Google)

When you use AI analysis, the image(s) and related prompt/context are sent to Gemini AI via a network request. Transfer happens over encrypted connection (HTTPS). We recommend you avoid including sensitive personal information in images or notes.

Before images are sent, the app performs an on-device check (Apple Vision) to detect faces and block images that appear to contain a face.

We do not store these images on our own server as part of the service. Any processing and storage is governed by the third partys terms and privacy policy.

Apple

Subscriptions and payments are handled by Apple. See Apples privacy policy for details on how Apple processes purchase and account information.

5. Storage and retention

Journal data and settings are primarily stored locally on your device. You can remove them by deleting content in the app or uninstalling the app. Images you choose for AI analysis are only sent when analyzing and are not intended to be stored by us as part of any cloud service.

If you enable iCloud backup in the app settings, journal entries (notes and any optional images) can be backed up to your private iCloud account. Images are stored in compressed sizes (thumbnail + analysis quality) to reduce storage. The developer cannot access your journal content (notes/photos).

6. Security

We use standard security measures for data transport over the network (HTTPS) when you use AI analysis. No solution can guarantee 100% security, but we aim to minimize data usage and keep data local where possible.

7. Your choices and rights

  • You can choose not to use AI analysis at any time (no images will be sent).
  • You can revoke camera/photo/notification permissions in iOS settings.
  • You can edit and delete journal notes, including images added to a note.
  • You can delete journal data by removing content in the app or uninstalling the app.

8. Children

Sourdoughy is not intended for collecting information about children. If you believe a child has shared personal information through the app, please contact us.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy when needed. For major changes we will update the “Last updated” date.

Note: AI can be wrong and is not a replacement for your own judgement. Avoid including sensitive personal information in images or notes.
